Description
Safeheart® Soft is manufactured by SavaVet. It comes in a form of chewable tablets that are easy to take for dogs. The active ingredient of these tablets is Pimobendan, a positive inotrope, calcium sensitizer, and selective inhibitor of phosphodiesterase 3 (PDE3).
Indications:
- as an add-on therapy in management of mild to severe congestive heart failure associated with AVVI or DCM in dogs.
Safeheart® Soft strengthens heart muscles, reduces cardiac fatigue, and dilates arteries and veins increasing tissue perfusion and minimizing tissue congestion. Be aware that the sole consumption of Safeheart® Soft does not cure heart diseases or stop heart attacks.
MOA (mechanism of action):
Pimobendan increases myocardial contractility (an ability of heart muscles to contract), so that the heart can undergo the stress loads more easily. Pimobendan also causes peripheral vasodilation and stimulates the ability to produce force during contraction. Namely, it inhibits the function of phosphodiesterase III and increases the binding of cardiac troponin to the calcium ions, thereby promoting the concentration of calcium in the cells – factor directly responsible for the aforementioned binding and contraction force as well. By these actions, Pimobendan decreases blood flow resistance through capillaries and relieves afterload.
Dosage
Safeheart® Soft should be taken by mouth and chewed thoroughly.
The total daily dose is 0,5 mg/kg bodyweight divided in two intakes approximately 12 hours apart (e. g., in the morning and at bedtime).
The tablets can be cut if needed to provide the exact dose calculated for your dog depending on its bodyweight.
The exact course duration must be determined by your veterinarian.
If you are struggling with giving tablets to your dog, Safeheart® Soft tablet may be disguised in a small bite of moist food, so that your dog would like to eat it.
Missing a dose
If you miss a dose you should give it as soon as you remember about your missing. If it is the time for the next dose you should continue the regular dosing schedule. Do not exceed the recommended dosage. Do not administer a double dose to compensate the missed one.
Overdose
If an overdose occurs and your pet is feeling unwell, stop giving the medication immediately and seek medical advice.
